Terms of Use
Last updated: 2026-05-18
These Terms of Use ("Terms") govern your use of the Vow iOS application ("Vow", "the app"), operated by Hassan Hajarat, a sole developer based in Amman, Jordan ("we", "us"). By creating an account or using Vow, you agree to these Terms.
1. Eligibility
You must be at least 13 years old, or the minimum age required in your country to consent to digital services, to use Vow. By using Vow you confirm you meet this requirement.
2. What Vow does
Vow lets you commit to blocking distracting apps and categories on your iPhone for periods of time you set. Vow uses Apple's Screen Time and Family Controls frameworks to apply these blocks. A vow can be a one-off manual lock for a chosen duration, or a recurring schedule.
3. The unbreakable commitment
Vow is intentionally designed so that an active vow cannot be ended early. By using Vow you are agreeing to the following:
- No early unlock. Once a vow is active, no action inside the app, no support request, and no admin action on our side will release it before its scheduled end time.
- Reinstalling Vow does not end the block. The restriction is enforced by iOS via the Family Controls authorization, which persists when the app is deleted.
- Server-side persistence. We store enough information about your active vow (start time, end time, opaque selection token) on our backend so that signing out, switching phones, or wiping your device and signing back in with the same Apple ID will resume the vow.
- Support cannot help you end a vow early. Do not email us asking us to end an active vow. We have intentionally built the system so that we cannot do this.
- Ways the vow can still end: the scheduled end time being reached; you revoking Vow's Family Controls authorization in iOS Settings (which may require your device passcode); or factory-resetting your device.
This is the entire point of Vow. Do not start a vow you are not prepared to keep.
4. Wellness disclaimer
Vow is a self-help tool, not a medical product. It is not a treatment for any addiction, mental health condition, or other medical issue. If you are struggling with severe compulsive behaviour, please consult a qualified healthcare professional. Vow is not a substitute for professional care.
5. Subscriptions
Vow is subscription-only. There is no free tier and no free trial.
- Plans: monthly and annual subscriptions, priced as shown in the app at the time of purchase.
- Auto-renewal: Your subscription automatically renews at the end of each period unless you cancel at least 24 hours before the period ends. The renewal price is the same as the original price, except where local law requires us to disclose otherwise.
- Billing: Apple charges your Apple ID at confirmation of purchase and at the start of each renewal.
- Cancellation: You can cancel at any time in Settings › Apple ID › Subscriptions on your device. Cancellation takes effect at the end of the current paid period.
- Refunds: Refunds are handled by Apple, not by us. Please contact Apple Support for refund requests.
These Terms operate in addition to Apple's Standard End-User License Agreement, which governs your underlying license to use the Vow app. You can read it at apple.com/legal/internet-services/itunes/dev/stdeula.
6. Acceptable use
You agree not to:
- Attempt to bypass, defeat, or reverse-engineer Vow's blocking mechanism, for yourself or anyone else.
- Use Vow to apply blocks on someone else's device without their consent.
- Use Vow in violation of any applicable law.
7. Your account
You sign in with Apple. You are responsible for keeping access to your Apple ID secure. We may suspend or terminate your account for material breaches of these Terms.
You can delete your account at any time by emailing support@makevow.app. Deletion of your account does not end any active vow on your device — see Section 3.
8. Limitation of liability
To the maximum extent permitted by law, Vow is provided "as is" without warranties of any kind. We do not guarantee that the blocking mechanism will be uninterrupted, fully effective on every iOS version, or free from defects. We are not liable for any indirect, incidental, or consequential damages arising from your use of Vow. Our total liability for any direct damages is limited to the amount you have paid us in the twelve months preceding the claim.
9. Changes to these Terms
If we make material changes to these Terms, we will notify you in-app before the change takes effect. Continued use of Vow after a change constitutes acceptance.
10. Governing law
These Terms are governed by the laws of the Hashemite Kingdom of Jordan, without regard to its conflict-of-laws principles. Any dispute will be resolved in the courts of Amman, Jordan.
